In the effluent it is in equilibrium between free ammonia (NH\u2083) and ammonium ion (NH\u2084\u207a), depending on pH and temperature. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As well as being a regulatory parameter, ammonia removal helps to avoid eutrophication processes, toxicity to aquatic biota and operational difficulties in treatment plants. For this reason, knowledge of available technologies is essential for more efficient decision-making and investment. <br><br><\/span><\/p><h3><b>What is ammonia removal in sanitary effluent?<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ammonia removal consists of transforming or removing the ammonia nitrogen present in sewage. This compound originates from the degradation of nitrogenous organic matter and is found in dissolved form, and can be in the form of free ammonia (NH\u2083) or ammonium ion (NH\u2084\u207a).
