EP Group has PDI projects approved under the Lei do Bem by MCTI

We are pleased to announce that EP Process Engineering has received a favorable from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) in the analysis of projects submitted to the Lei do Bem (Law No. 11.196/2005).

All contested projects and expenditures were 100% approveda milestone that reinforces the EP Group’s scientific and technological capacity.

What is the Law of Good and why does this result matter?

The Lei do Bem (Good Law) is the main fiscal incentive instrument for innovation in Brazil. It enables companies that invest in Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) have access to tax benefits, stimulating:

  • generation of technological knowledge;
  • increased competitiveness;
  • scientific progress applied to industry;
  • greater autonomy to develop innovative solutions.

The MCTI’s approval recognizes that EP’s projects strictly comply with the RD&I criteria established in the legislation and in the technical references.

What the MCTI highlighted about EP projects

“The company provides details in its defense that show the complexity involved in considering effluents, the need to meet specific legal limits. […] The project also includes systematic methodologywith physicochemical characterization, laboratory and pilot scale tests, and validation under real conditions, proves the R&D character.” – says the MCTI opinion document

The technical opinion highlights very important points about the EP’s scientific performance:

1. Technological complexity

The MCTI pointed out that the company’s projects dealt with complex environmental challenges, including:

  • diversity and variability of effluent matrices;
  • strict legal limits;
  • lack of standardized solutions on the market.

These factors required acquiring new knowledgetechnological uncertainties and the creation of new approaches.

2. Innovation through customized technological routes

According to the opinion, EP has developed its own technological routes, combining known processes in an innovative way for each type of effluent:

  • new technology,
  • application of science,
  • real experimental development,
  • e effective character of the IDP.

3. Robust scientific methodology

The MCTI recognized the application of a structured method, including:

  • detailed physicochemical characterization;
  • systematic laboratory tests;
  • pilot-scale tests;
  • validation of solutions under real operating conditions.

This approach reinforces the scientific basis and proves that the activities are classified as Research and Development.

EP’s Research, Development and Innovation department works in line with the methodological guidelines of the OECDmethodological guidelines, adopting international standards to guarantee scientific rigor, data reliability and technical consistency at all stages of development.

Get to know the PDI

More than an advanced laboratory, the PDI is an unique environmental intelligence centercreated to solve complex problems faced by industries – especially those that require in-depth study, technological customization and evidence-based decisions.

Our team conducts complete treatability testsWe also carry out bench tests and mechanical, chemical and biological evaluations to indicate the best treatment path for each type of effluent. The solutions we have developed include:

  • Removal of heavy metals
  • Advanced oxidation for the degradation of recalcitrant compounds (AOPs)
  • COD and BOD reduction
  • Removal of phenols, cyanide and other toxic contaminants
  • Optimized biological processes for low and high load effluents
  • Hybrid technologies that combine physical, chemical and biological steps
  • Studies for safe water reuse

With a technical, personalized and results-oriented approach, EP transforms environmental challenges into efficient solutions, always with a focus on legal compliance, reduced operating costs and lower environmental impact.
