Cationic Resin

Cationic Resin

A cation resin is a synthetic material, usually in the form of small spheres, used to remove positive ions (cations) from water and replace them with other desired positive ions.
This process is essential for water purification, especially in softening systems, where it is necessary to remove calcium and magnesium ions that cause hardness in the water.

How does cationic resin work?

The cationic resin contains active functional groups that attract and retain positive ions present in the water. When the water passes through the resin, the calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions are exchanged for sodium (Na⁺) ions present in the resin. This process results in a reduction in the hardness of the water, making it suitable for various industrial and domestic applications.
